First Day of Kindergarten

My baby started kindergarten today (sniff, sniff)! He has anxiously been awaiting this day for weeks, and could hardly sleep last night for all his excitement. He was up, dressed, and ready with the sun. Unfortunately school didn't begin until 9:25, so he was left to wait for a few more hours. Jay and I (and Cody too) feel fortunate to have the option of sending Cody to my school. I love this for the obvious reason that I get to see and be near him every day, but also because of the relationship that I have with his teacher, Mrs. Downey, a dear friend of mine. Jay loves that he's "off the hook" as far as transporting Cody back and forth to school, but also loves that I'm just a hop, skip, and a jump away, and that I have the insider track on teachers, curriculum, and our little monkey's daily behavior. And Cody, well, he's just SO happy to finally be a kindergartner!

This morning Jay and I got to spend the first chunk of the day in kindergarten with our boy. We helped him to familiarize himself with the classroom, complete projects, and meet a few of his classmates. When the time came for mommy and daddy to leave, well let's just say there were tears...and the weren't from Cody.

  1. How did you manage to spend the morning with him and not in your classroom?

  2. Shannon,
I got really lucky. My principal arranged for our curriculum coach to cover my class so that I could be with Cody - one of the perks of having a female administrator! It was awesome. I knew Jay would be there, but I REALLY wanted to be apart of it too - I'm So glad it worked out - or there would have been so serious tears!
